Prof. Ben Parrell has been awarded a two-year research grant from the University of Delaware Research Foundation. The project is titled "Reinforcement learning in speech motor control", and seeks to understand how different types of motor learning may be used to acquire and maintain speech targets (such as consonants and vowels) throughout ones life. Additionally, the project looks to understand the neurological underpinnings of this learning by studying people with neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's disease.
More information about Prof. Parrell's research can be found on the Speech, Phonetics, and Phonology Lab website.
